Molly<\/h4>\n

A character?\u00a0 Give me a break, Monica.<\/p>\n

Monica<\/h4>\n

The man is magnificent.\u00a0 Such raw, working class energy!\u00a0 Such refreshing honesty, cutting through all the bourgeois conventions and grasping the essential truth of existence!<\/p>\n

Molly<\/h4>\n

You gotta be kidding!\u00a0 That pervert?<\/p>\n

Monica<\/h4>\n

But pervert by what standards?\u00a0 By the conventions of a repressive, unjust society that uh, uh, you know (breaks out in hysterical laughter, Molly joins in)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Molly<\/h4>\n

So you\u2019d want Vic Vincent to move next door and marry your daughter?<\/p>\n

Monica<\/h4>\n

Well, that little freak is our ticket to the big time.\u00a0 If we pull this off \u2026<\/p>\n

Molly<\/h4>\n

Well, we are both reasonably attractive \u2026<\/p>\n

Molly<\/h4>\n

I don\u2019t mean that.\u00a0 I mean, that too, but there\u2019s something else.\u00a0 The angle we\u2019re sitting at, the way he tilts his head.\u00a0 It\u2019s off.\u00a0 It\u2019s just off.\u00a0 Like he was performing on camera even as we talk.<\/p>\n

Monica<\/h4>\n

Molly, tell me this.\u00a0 How bad do you want this?<\/p>\n

What difference does it make?\u00a0 (long pause)<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 I hadn\u2019t thought about it that much.\u00a0 I mean, my fast answer is that I don\u2019t want this at all.\u00a0 I can\u2019t stand it.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 How bad do you want it?<\/p>\n

Monica<\/h4>\n

More than I\u2019ve ever wanted anything in my entire life.<\/p>\n

Molly<\/h4>\n

Why?\u00a0 Because it\u2019ll make you rich and famous?<\/p>\n

Monica<\/h4>\n

I don\u2019t know.\u00a0 I hadn\u2019t thought about it that much either.\u00a0 But now there\u2019s something in my gut that\u2019s, oh, I don\u2019t know either.\u00a0 Let\u2019s sleep on it.\u00a0 Vic Vincent awaits us at dawn.<\/p>\n

Molly<\/h4>\n

Do I get a blindfold and a last cigarette?<\/p>\n

Monica<\/h4>\n

(Monica laughs)<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 I thought you were trying to cut down.\u00a0 (laughs again)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Molly<\/h4>\n

Okay.\u00a0 Till tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Long pause.\u00a0 Then the sound of knuckles on glass, to the rhythm of \u201cshave and a haircut, six bits.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Monica<\/h4>\n

What was that sound?<\/p>\n

Another pause.\u00a0 Then the clacking of a projector as the film runs out.\u00a0 End.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
