Jake<\/h4>\n

Egad!\u00a0 Did you think I grabbed your exquisite heaving bosoms because I was suddenly overcome by their promises of ecstasy?<\/p>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

Maybe I should be going \u2026<\/p>\n

Jake<\/h4>\n

Maybe you shouldn\u2019t.\u00a0 You know about Amazons, don\u2019t you?<\/p>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

They fought Achilles before the gates of Troy, and \u2026<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t think so.\u00a0 But then you have led a sheltered life, haven\u2019t you?\u00a0 Pardon my copping a cheap feel, but I had to make sure you weren\u2019t an Amazon.<\/p>\n

I recall they had one breast cut off so it wouldn\u2019t interfere with shooting a bow.<\/p>\n

Jake<\/h4>\n

Okay, you\u2019re on the right track.\u00a0 But there have been what might debatably be called improvements.\u00a0 In the latest model, nothing actually gets cut off.\u00a0 The skin on their breasts is injected with a hardening agent, botox for the lethal set, and gun barrels are implanted inside.\u00a0 Then one lung is replaced by an ammo feed and their whole bodies are wired up to manage fire control.\u00a0 Their eyes are gun sights and their world is seen through cross-hairs.\u00a0 They say Bloody Lane is the best, brings a whole new excitement to being close, if you get my drift.\u00a0 So here I am, all set for an enchanting evening of sex and death, and you come prancing in like Little Red Riding Hood.<\/p>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

You wanted to be killed?<\/p>\n

Jake<\/h4>\n

Or fucked.<\/p>\n

Jake reaches down and brings up his pistol, sights down the barrel, then puts it back down.\u00a0 Amanda clenches the arms of her chair in terror.<\/em><\/p>\n

Au contraire!\u00a0 You hear your mother calling? \u2026 Tonight you were going to do your hair? \u00a0(Amanda starts to stand)<\/em>\u00a0 You sit the fuck down right now!\u00a0 You stay!\u00a0 You\u2019re not going anywhere.\u00a0 (she sits)<\/em>\u00a0 From what you\u2019ve told me, I\u2019ll bet a whole lot of people don\u2019t take you very seriously.\u00a0 Please confirm.<\/p>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

(nods)<\/em>\u00a0 I\u2019m a woman, so what else is new \u2026<\/p>\n

Jake<\/h4>\n

Lady, you might think me an unspeakable cad.\u00a0 Hell, I am an unspeakable cad.\u00a0 But whatever you think, you wouldn\u2019t say I\u2019m not taking you seriously.\u00a0 Please confirm.<\/p>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

(nods)<\/em>\u00a0 Yeah. \u00a0So? \u2026<\/p>\n

Jake<\/h4>\n

So let\u2019s get serious.\u00a0 We got some heavy palavering to do.\u00a0 Any thoughts?<\/p>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

Something\u2019s real wrong here, that\u2019s for sure. \u00a0I figure I fit in, but no idea how.\u00a0 Right now I\u2019m terrified because, oh well \u2026 See, there\u2019s this old story \u2014 I\u2019m sure you\u2019ve heard it \u2014 but it haunts me all the time.\u00a0 It goes something like, oh, this ancient Middle Eastern guy has heard that Death is looking for him, and he\u2019s walking through the bazaar \u2026<\/p>\n

Jake<\/h4>\n

Not as bizarre as this is, what\u2019s \u2026<\/p>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

That feel job wasn\u2019t for free.\u00a0 You want thoughts, you\u2019re gonna get thoughts.\u00a0 Confirm?<\/p>\n

Jake<\/h4>\n

(nods with a smile)<\/em>\u00a0 Confirmed \u2026<\/p>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

Anyway, this ancient guy is walking through this bazaar, and he sees Death.\u00a0 Scares him shitless.\u00a0 So he goes running off to Damascus 200 miles away, and who does he meet up with?\u00a0 Mr. Death, and old Death, he says, \u201cGee whiz, I was told to reap you here in Damascus, but this is sure a surprise cuz I saw you in that bazaar way over yonder the other day.\u201d\u00a0 And I guess Death croaks him or something.<\/p>\n

Jake<\/h4>\n

I\u2019ve heard something like that.<\/p>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

So I was godawful scared \u2014 coming over here trying to save you \u2014 that I was going to get you killed instead.\u00a0 And now I see, now I see, now I see \u2026<\/p>\n

Jake<\/h4>\n

You about turned to stone when my face turned into the light, didn\u2019t you?\u00a0 I of course thought it was my astonishingly handsome visage \u2026<\/p>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

I didn\u2019t mean \u2026<\/p>\n

Jake<\/h4>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n

(looks away, clutches herself)<\/em>\u00a0 That vision I told you about, that was for real.\u00a0 And I was somehow drawn to you.\u00a0 But there\u2019s been some horrible mistake.\u00a0 I thought \u2026 oh god, I\u2019ve been such a fool \u2026 I thought you were the victim, and \u2026 (looks to the door, looks back to Jake, straightens up, slumps back in her chair, hides her face in her hands)<\/em>\u00a0 then I see your face and I find that you\u2019re the murderer.\u00a0 Here I am trying to save a goddamn murderer.\u00a0 (begins sobbing into her hands)<\/em><\/p>\n

Jake<\/h4>\n

(Jake begins laughing uproariously, shaking his head, grinning widely)<\/em>\u00a0 Damn right I\u2019m a murderer.\u00a0 Biggest goddamn murderer in the whole northeast.\u00a0 The Barry Bonds of murderers.\u00a0 The fucking Angel of Death!\u00a0 So I\u2019m a murderer, eh.\u00a0 Is that all?\u00a0 That\u2019s your best shot?\u00a0 You were embarrassed to tell me I was a killer?\u00a0 C\u2019mon now, say something bad about me.<\/p>\n

Amanda<\/h4>\n
