Independent isn’t just another word for nothing left to sell.

Already Greens are starting to leave. We fought hard, we fought brave, we endured the full viciousness of the Hillary machine. We were endangering the U.S. role as leader of the Free World. We are endangering the world order of corporate trade.

But Jill Stein was clear:

“Under Hillary Clinton, we could slide into nuclear war very quickly from her declared policy in Syria. So I won’t sleep well at night if Donald Trump is elected, but I sure won’t sleep well at night if Hillary Clinton is elected. Fortunately, we have another choice other than these two candidates, who are both promoting lethal policies. But on the issue of war and nuclear weapons, and the potential for nuclear war, it is actually Hillary’s policies which are much scarier than Donald Trump …”

She was under tremendous pressure.  She was unjustly getting the blame for Trump’s victory.  She buckled.  Now the official line is that this recount she is making possible is not for the sake of Hillary, but for fairness.  But consider the results in a few other states where Hillary’s margin of victory was quite thin:

New Hampshire
Maine
Minnesota
Nevada
Delaware
  3,000
20,000
44,000
26,000
50,000

If her true concern were fairness, she would have challenged results in these 5 states as well.  If her true concern were fairness, she would have been challenging the results in Democratic primaries all across the country where Sanders votes were found in dumpsters, where hundreds of thousands of Sanders supporters disappeared from the voter rolls right before the primaries where one had to be a party registrant.

Greens are leaving, or considering leaving.  But we must not.  This is our party, not Jill Stein’s party.  We fought for it.  We built it.  It is not hers to tarnish, to humiliate, to make us look like we are idiots.  We must recognize that being a Green means being a fighter.

Thanks for your comment. The Green Party US national committee voted not to support this audit/recount effort by Stein, so you are right she is not the party. I agree, we should not leave the party but make sure our candidates are solidly independent of the Democratic Party (especially).

You are right. The Green Party US central committee voted against this Stein recount/audit effort. We need to make sure future presidential candidates are not the types to support Democrats.

While I am now inclined to just give up on the Green Party, the hard fact is there are no alternatives right now and nobody seems to have any idea how hard it is to form an independent leftist party. Good article Jeff, I added it as another of your references in my article. See Scott McLarty – A New Party is Not Easy – http://www.newprogs.org/a_new_party_is_not_easy
