Didier Ortiz for 15 Now / Ban the Box !

ortizCamp02Election Day is February 10 for Fort Lauderdale City Commission District 3.

We’re getting into the home stretch of Didier’s final fundraising campaign.  See:  http://igg.me/at/OrtizForCommissioner

Didier Ortiz, who has been endorsed by 15 Now Florida, has a great message:

Didier Ortiz (http://gpfl.org/didier-ortiz-how-are-they-going-to-feed-th…/) is the best candidate the Green Party of Florida has had for years. Young, passionate, and a fiery speaker, he embodies the future of our party here in Florida (see his video). It is not too much of a stretch to see him as Florida’s Howie Hawkins, whose New York race for governor has already shaken up New York politics.

  • Ortiz is the one candidate fighting for the $15 minimum wage, to lead the district’s people out of poverty.
  • Ortiz is the one candidate who supports Ban the Box, which would give ex-felons a fighting chance in the job market.
  • Ortiz is the one candidate who has stands side-by-side with Arnold Abbott in defiance of Fort Lauderdale’s vicious attempt to ban feeding the homeless.

But he needs your help to get that message to the people of his district. $10, $25, $50 or more — anything helps make a difference. His opponents are rolling in cash. Incumbent Robert McKinzie has “voted lock-step with the City on its remaining anti-homeless agenda.” A former banker (collections department) and a real estate mogul, complains that the district has too many rental properties. He wants to drive out renters and bring in middle-class professionals. McKinzie, as of his 11/30/14 report, has raised $42,375 and spent $10,352, leaving him big money for a last-minute media blitz.

Then there is Donna Guthrie, a banker, who has raised $8,979 and spent $3,011. She is a business-as-usual Democrat. She is in the race to build a career as a tool of the real estate developers.

The pair are throwing a one-two gentrification combo.

So yes, Didier needs your help. He has a winning message in this financially depressed district. But he can only win if he can get that message out to the people. Every donation counts. After you have given — $10, $25, $50 or more — we ask that you:

  • Post this to your Facebook or Twitter pages
  • E-mail this to all your friends
  • Get on the phone. Call 5 friends or relatives. Better yet, call 5 friends AND 5 relatives. Ask them to give as well. Ask each of them to call 5 friends. There is nothing like person-to-person contact.

If we all pitch in, we can put this over the top. Thank you for coming through for us.
